Should I take my usual medication the day of my appointment? Should I bring medications I need to take the day of my appointment with me?
Yes, take all your usual and necessary medications the day of your appointment.
Do you need to know the medications I am currently taking?
Yes, please bring a list of all medications including medications for the eyes with you.
Should I bring someone with me to the appointment?
Yes, bring a relative or friend to drive you home after your eyes are dilated. Additionally, there is not enough seating area for everyone to bring additional individuals along with him or her.
Can I eat before I come for my appointment?
Yes, unless you are planning to have surgery the day of your visit. If you are having surgery the day of your visit, you will have received preoperative instructions telling you whether you can eat or not. If you are expecting to have laser treatment, you may still eat.
How long will the dilating drops last?
In the clinic, we use several different strengths of drops. Some people react differently to these drops. If stronger drops are used, you may notice your eyes are dilated into the next day. You can request a shorter acting dilated drop if longer dilation will create a problem for you.
How long will it be the clinic?
Clinic appointments vary. The usual appointment is at least two hours. If additional testing is necessary, you could be here for an entire day.
Is there a place to get breakfast or lunch?
A small Starbuck's kiosk with coffee, roles, cereal and juice is available in the morning. They serve sandwiches, salads, desserts and drinks at lunchtime. We also have a visitor's cafeteria in another building were hot meals are available. It will probably cost an individual between $3 and $10 to get something while you are here.
